Tensor Threads / PDO

Tightening threads are fine sutures made of biocompatible and resorbable materials - mainly PDO (polydioxanone), PLLA (polylactic acid) or PCL (polycaprolactone) - that are inserted under the skin with needles or cannulas to produce an immediate mechanical tightening and lifting effect, while in the long term stimulating collagen production along the thread path.

Types of thread tightening

Smooth threads: No hooks or rods. Their main function is to stimulate collagen and improve skin quality. They are used on lips, dark circles, neck and décolleté.

Spiculated or barbed threads: With micro-anchors or spicules that trap the tissue and allow real mechanical tightening. They are indicated for lifting cheeks, corners of the mouth, chin and neck.

Threads with cog (with bidirectional barbs): The most powerful for lifting, as they anchor the tissue in two directions. Indicated for the facial oval and jowls.

What areas are treated with tensor threads?

The main indications are: flaccidity of the middle and lower third of the face (cheeks, corners, oval), neck, drooping eyebrows and tail of the eyebrow, nose (rhinoplasty without surgery), jowls and neckline.

The procedure

It is performed under local anesthesia in the office. The session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. The threads are inserted under the skin with needles or blunt-tipped cannulas, which minimizes trauma. There may be mild swelling and bruising for 5-10 days. Most patients return to normal life in 2-4 days.

Results and duration

The tightening effect is immediate but improves over the next 4-6 weeks as neocollagenogenesis develops. PDO threads last 6-12 months, PLLA and PCL threads up to 18-24 months. The treatment can be repeated.
