Photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic therapy combines two steps: first a photosensitising product is applied to the skin, where it concentrates in the most active cells, and then the area is lit with light of a specific wavelength. The reaction between the two aims to reduce inflammation and the activity of the oil glands and to renew the skin surface. At CB Clinic we use it as part of the treatment of some skin problems, always after a medical assessment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a session like?

The skin is cleansed, the photosensitising product is applied and left to act for a while, and then the light is applied for a few minutes. You may feel warmth or stinging during the light exposure.

What aftercare is needed?

The skin stays sensitive to light for the following hours, so sun and strong light must be avoided that day. Some redness or peeling for a few days is normal.

Can I book a session directly?

We do not offer it as a stand-alone treatment: at the information visit the doctor decides whether it is indicated for your skin problem and what to combine it with.

What happens at the information visit?

It is a first visit with the doctor, at no cost, where we listen to you, examine the area and explain which options make sense in your case. There is no commitment to start any treatment.
