Skin pigmentation and tattoos
Sun spots, melasma, marks left by spots and other hyperpigmentation differ in origin and depth. Identifying the type of pigmentation is the first step, because not all of it is treated the same way: the doctor first rules out any lesion that needs further study.
Treatments we offer
Pigmentation laser
Pigmentation laser uses very short pulses of energy, in the picosecond range (trillionths of a second), that break up melanin and ink particles with little heat on the surrounding skin. It is used for pigmentation spots, hyperpigmentation and tattoos.
Indications
Spots and hyperpigmentation: melasma, sun spots, age spots, post-acne hyperpigmentation and freckles. In darker skin types (olive or Mediterranean skin) the doctor adjusts the settings to lower the risk of hyperpigmentation.
Tattoos: it is used to treat tattoos, including colours such as red, orange, green or blue. The number of sessions depends on the size, depth and age of the tattoo.
Skin texture: a fractional mode is used for texture, acne scars and enlarged pores.
The treatment
Anaesthetic cream is applied before the session, which lasts between 15 and 45 minutes. There may be redness and swelling for 24 to 48 hours. Strict sun protection is essential throughout the treatment.
Number of sessions
For superficial spots, 2 to 4 sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart; for tattoos, between 3 and 10 depending on their characteristics. Changes are progressive and are assessed between sessions. Like any medical procedure, it can carry risks and side effects, which the doctor explains before the informed consent is signed.
